The shop

Hockey families
deserve a real
pro shop.

Kingston Bladz has been the city's Maximum Edge® shop for over a decade. Last year, the original owner retired and handed the keys to Kevin Gauvreau — a Kingston hockey lifer (KAMHA + GK player, coach, and goalie instructor since 1989) — and his son Dean.

Kevin and Dean have both completed Maximum Edge® training. The same precision sharpening + profiling system used by the NHL is now in their hands, on Midland Avenue, every Tuesday through Saturday.

FAQ

Things people
always ask.

How long does a sharpening take? +
Walk-ins are usually done while you wait — most sharpenings take under 15 minutes. Busier evenings or right before a tournament can run longer; we recommend dropping skates off in the morning if you have a tight pre-game window.
What is Maximum Edge® sharpening? +
Maximum Edge® is a patented sharpening + profiling system used by the NHL and on-ice officials. It puts the skater in control of the skate (rather than the other way around) by adjusting hollow + profile to the rider's body, position, and style. Bladz Skate Shop is part of the Maximum Edge® network.
Do you sharpen figure skates as well as hockey skates? +
Yes — both. We do hockey, figure, and goalie skates. Bring them in any time we're open.
Do you carry replacement steel for my skates? +
We stock standard stainless steel for all major models from Bauer, CCM, Graf, and Easton. Diamond-Coated Black steel is available for select models. If we don't have your size in store, we can order it in.
Do you do stick repair? +
We use the SRS stick-repair system — cracked or broken shafts can often be saved instead of replaced. Bring the stick in and we'll quote on the spot.
Do you offer team or association pricing? +
Yes. Standing rates for KAMHA, GK, and other Kingston-area minor hockey associations and teams. Talk to Kevin or Dean at the counter.
